What To Expect When we Start Working Together...
At the beginning of relationship and couples therapy, we dive deep to uncover the roots of any dissatisfaction, distress, or disconnection you may be feeling. From there, we create a personalized treatment program designed just for you and your partner, because every couple is unique! A strength of Gottman Therapy is the assessment phase which was designed to effectively understand concerns in order to implement the right strategies for resolution.
Typically, the therapeutic journey unfolds in three phases: the Assessment Phase, the Treatment Phase, and the Maintenance Phase.
Assessment Phase
Developing a thorough understanding of what a couple needs from therapy is essential.
Assessment and planning is undertaken initially, to determine treatment requirements as well as suitability for couples therapy/coaching.
Assessment and treatment planning involves a series of online questionnaires, as well as two-hours together, which is made up of joint and individual meetings.
By doing this assessment, it allows me to properly support you and your partner by developing a treatment plan specifically tailored for you.
Treatment Phase
After the assessment phase, I will share with you the most suitable treatment program tailored to your relationship needs. The frequency and length of treatment will be based on the primary relationship issues and the concerns. Treatment recommendations can differ.
Maintenance Phase
Engaging in couples therapy is an investment of time, money, and a lot emotional energy. Once there is consistent improvement and enhanced relationship satisfaction, I would then recommend we move to a maintenance phase. Maintenance therapy is recommended to prevent relapse and to keep you both on track. Maintenance sessions could be monthly to three-monthly, and ensuring continued maintenance of progress,
